Watlington Methodist Church, Oxfordshire

Re-roofing works to a Victorian church building.

Manifest were appointed to assist the church in the inspection of their fine slate roof and its timber structure, and to specify repair methods.  Following a full condition survey, we set out on a careful design exercise, considering the repair of timbers, assessment of existing decay and insect attack, together with the details of how new slates could be laid to match existing appearances and loading patterns.

We always consider buildings in a holistic manner, and this lovely Victorian church is no exception.  Existing insulation at ceiling level was carefully considered in the light of moisture movements and the requirements for adequate ventilation to reduce the likelihood of condensation and consequent deterioration of timbers and other historic building fabric.
