Large timber-framed veranda to a new house, Oxfordshire

Manifest were commissioned to construct this new timber framed veranda, which was carried out in large sections of Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), to allow for open spans and spaces within.  The house itself was newly built a few years before, and the home owners decided that they would like to spend as much time outside as possible.  Manifest worked closely with designers Ecologos and engineers Price & Myers to realise this vision, including the omission of normal diagonal braces (the structure was entirely braced off the existing buildings to compensate).

Manifest provided timber framing expertise at the design phase, moving through construction using traditional framing techniques and joints.  Groundworks, and roofing in natural slate, were carried out by others.  The padstones are in Bath stone, supplied by Cotswold Natural Stone and bedded in hydraulic lime burnt at Manifest’s own yard.
