University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford
Feasibility study for a major city church.
The University Church of Oxford approached Manifest to assist them with a condition survey and outline feasibility study to tackle failings to the lead roof of the nave. High-level inspections showed that the leadwork, last laid in the 1930s, was nearing the end of its natural lifespan – not a bad record for a 90-year-old roof. Details and surveys showing how the roof could be brought up to contemporary standards of leadwork, including some limited re-design behind existing castellated stone parapets, point to how this can be re-laid for the next century of its life, and provide continuing protection to this exceptionally significant church.
