Conservation of a significant Arts & Crafts House in Hertfordshire
Careful & light-touch treatment of damp and related problems
In the very early 20th century, renowned architect C.F.A. Voysey built a new home for himself and his family in the small town of Chorleywood in Hertfordshire. Now listed at Grade I, the house is a classic expression of Voysey’s architectural mien: his meticulous attention to the detail of craftsmanship, combined with a broad vision of sweeping roofs (covered in fine green slates) and white-painted roughcast walls, give a classic beauty to this large house.
Manifest were appointed to advise on ongoing problems relating to damp and moisture in certain key areas of the house, and to consult on related aspects of guttering, drainage, movement and the full re-painting of the rainwater goods and render. New plaster mixes were carefully specified, together with stone and timber repairs.
We were delighted to be joined by contractor Fuller’s of London who carried out all building works.
